ELECTIONS INFO
The UFV Student Union Society’s Board of Directors is composed of student representatives who are elected annually to steer the activities of students and ensure the Society is representative of current students.
This election is called by the current Board of Directors and typically runs during the Winter semester. All fourteen elected positions are open for students nominations and we encourage any student who is passionate about representing their peers to run.
The Society also often runs by-elections to fill any positions that are vacant in the Fall semester. By-elections run over a shorter period and typically take place in October.
All Board of Directors’ terms run from May 1 to April 30 of the following year; the terms of directors elected at a by-elections still end in April.
NOMINATION FAQS
+ Why Should I Run?
The Student Union Society exists to provide a platform that elevates student leaders to advocate to the university on issues that impact students. These leadership roles steer the direction of the Society and directly influence change on campus. Representatives provide oversight over spending decisions, advocacy, and the student executives. The salaried executives are often the only student voice in the room when decisions that impact their peers are being made. During your term you will:
- Develop leadership, diplomacy, and teamwork skills
- Gain experience in advocacy, policy development, coordinating negotiations, and budget oversight
- Coordinate initiatives with senior leaders both within the University and externally
- Work alongside other students while representing 10,000+ students.
If you already have a heart for student issues, take advance of the resources the Student Union Society has to offer. Get in the room with the decision makers and ensure you're trained to achieve the results you want. The Board determines the SUS you get, ensuring it's the one you want.

+ WHAT’S A CANDIDATE STATEMENT?
A candidate statement is a document that informs voters of who you are and why you are running in the election. It touches on what you hope to accomplish and why you believe you are capable of representing the general student populations interests. Students like to know about what areas of the UFV Community you are involved in and whether the changes you want to make are in line with what they want. We always recommend including photos and taking some time to format the statement and make it look inviting and professional. You can find previous candidate statements online in our archives. Candidate statements are a required document to ensure the voters are able to make informed decisions.
