Fee Descriptions

+ Membership Fee

The membership fee funds the SUS Information Desk, programming, activities, events, university and federal/provincial advocacy, and the payroll for elected students and operations.

+ Health & Dental Fee

To help UFV students pay for the health services they need, SUS has partnered with StudentCare to provide students with extended health and dental coverage at an affordable price. The plan is designed specifically for students to cover many services not covered by the British Columbia Medical Services Plan (MSP).

+ U-pass Fee

The SUS U-Pass program provides UFV students access to Central Fraser Valley transit routes and selected recreational facilities. U-Pass is a post-secondary program that helps provide students with affordable transit and recreation facilities in their surrounding neighbourhoods.

+ Building Fee

The building fee covers the mortgage cost for our Student Union Building, any capital enhancements, maintenance of SUS spaces and common areas, custodian services, and the general operating expenses of the SUB and its offices.

+ Transportation Fee (Campus Shuttle)

The Campus Shuttle runs between the Chilliwack and Abbotsford Campuses. The transportation fee covers the cost of the service, which provides students with a convenient transit alternative between campuses.

+ IT Service Fee

The IT service fee covers the costs of providing UFV students with access to IT services, including support for personal devices such as mobile phones, laptops, and tablets. It also includes electronics repair and technical support provided by the UFV IT Service Desk.

+ Food Bank Fee

The UFV-SUS Food Bank fee helps address food insecurity among the UFV community by providing nutritious food and promoting healthy eating in a way that is accessible, inclusive, respectful, and sustainable. This program is a partnership between UFV Student Wellness and the Student Union Society (SUS).

+ WUSC Student Refugee Program Fee

The WUSC Student Refugee Program fee supports and funds the program that brings a refugee to Canada yearly to study at UFV.

FAQs

+ Why do I pay fees?

When students accept admission to UFV, they become members of our community. Much like the social contract between a government and its citizens, UFV students contribute to representation, social services, and infrastructure for our student community.

It is understood that different parts of our student community will utilize various facilities supported by these fees at different times during their student journey.

Particularly in regards to services such as the Campus Shuttle, it is understood that some students may not utilize them, however, to make these services accessible for those students in need, it is accepted as a part of this community that we will support one another.

From organizing/attending student events to receiving funding support for a club or society, taking transit or the Campus Shuttle, going to the gym, and studying in the Student Union Building to ensuring several elected UFV students are voicing student concerns and opinions, these fees bring only a few of the benefits to our community.

Please explore the website and @ufvsus social media to learn more about how the UFV Student Union serves our community!

+ When do I pay fees?

The fees are payable for each semester that you take classes. UFV collects society fees, but we (UFVSUS) set the amounts.

If you enroll in 9 or more credits in the Fall semester, the system will automatically enroll you in the Health and Dental plan. You pay this fee only once a year, and it covers you until the end of August next year.

If you begin your studies in January and enroll in 9 or more credits, your fee is reduced, as the coverage lasts only until August. If you already have this type of coverage, you can opt out of the health and dental plan.

+ What fees can I opt out and how?

You can opt out of the Health & Dental Plan and the U-Pass if you meet eligibility requirements.

+ Where can I find last year's financial reports?

We keep updating our archive with audited financial reports on Annual General Meetings every year.
