Safe Driving Week
Though the discussion around safe driving predominantly revolves around you, your driving habits, and how you should react to hazardous or unexpected situations, part of safe driving is also knowing when to put down the keys.
UFVSUS offers the Campus Shuttle Service and U-Pass Program to promote the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, generate less traffic on the roads, and, most importantly, support you and your needs. Students like yourself often face stress, fatigue, financial insecurities, and overall could just use a break. Utilizing the Campus Shuttle Service or transit system via the U-Pass Program can offer you a small but coveted slice of reprieve. Short for money this week, save some gas and take the shuttle. Stressed and anxious over a test, take that extra 30-minute trip from Chilliwack to Abby to study. The weather could be better, and you don't feel confident navigating through the heavy rain or snow, let a professional driver do it for you.
There are endless scenarios and reasons an individual may not want to drive or be in the prime state to drive, which is perfectly okay. Recognizing that you are not in the prime state to drive is the first step, and sourcing alternate means of transportation is the second step, which we have already done for you!
The Campus Shuttle Service runs from 7:00 am to 7:20 pm, Monday through Friday, with stops at the Abbotsford Campus, Trades and Technology Centre, and the main Chilliwack Campus. Though the shuttle can be used solely to access the different UFV campuses, students can easily navigate their way throughout the Fraser Valley when used in conjunction with the U-Pass Program. The U-Pass Program allows you to ride any BC Transit route (apart from the FVX66) fare-free in Abbotsford, Chilliwack, and Mission. Some practical transit routes that students may appreciate are:
Route 1 - Highstreet/UFV: Students can utilize this Abby route to head straight to/from UFV, Townhall, Seven Oaks Mall, and Highstreet Mall.
Route 51 - Vedder and FVX66: This is a mighty combination to remember! If you ever miss the last shuttle of the day in Chilliwack and you need to get home to Abby, jump on Route 51 (it picks up right outside of UFV Chilliwack Building A), hop off at Vedder and Luckakcuck, then transfer to the FVX66 where you can easily access the McCallum Park & Ride (which is the closest stop to UFV Abby).
Route 31 - Abbotsford/Mission and Route 1 - Highstreet/UFV: Students can use these two routes to get all the way from Abby to Mission or Mission to Abby without paying a dime when presenting a U-Pass!
So now you know! If you ever have a doubt in your mind about whether you should drive, don't. Make the responsible decision to ride transit or the shuttle to help keep yourself and others on the road safe.
