Advocacy, Clubs & Associations, Engagement, Equalities, and Finance Committees exist in each portfolio area to include the broader student voice in the decisions and operations of SUS. All current students are welcome to apply to join a committee and be involved directly in whatever interests them!
Advocacy is involved with those issues affecting broad and diverse student populations at UFV. This includes various lobbying efforts, accessibility issues, and environmental concerns.
This committee looks at all processes to help our clubs and associations on campus. As well, the committee manages their registration and general oversight. All students are welcome to apply.
Unlike the Advocacy Committee which focuses on issues impacting the entirety of the student community, the Equalities Committee provides a forum for student representatives of distinct communities to share the concerns of their groups, to initiate discussions on how to change current social inequality issues faced by these populations, and to develop innovative ideas for recommendation to the Executive Committee. The committee shall be concerned with assisting the SUS take active steps towards helping distinct communities build networks, as well as reduce barriers and various forms of discrimination faced by students on campus.
The Engagement Committee exists to help develop various pathways in engaging our membership and informing them of their Student Union Society. Primary focus is placed around Welcome Week, SJA Puppy Rooms, regualar SUS info tabling, Welcome Back event, and SUS Awards and Appreciation Night.
Finance committee deals with aspects surrounding various funding requests submitted to the Society. This includes proposal evaluation, budget tracking, and accountability measures. Preference will be given to students with a business, accounting, or economics academic path or with relevant experience.
At different times of the year depending on the issues and activities that arise, ad hoc Committees may be formed by the SUS Board of Directors. At the time such a Committee is approved, public announcements requesting applications will be made.
